LOS ANGELES – Luke Heimlich struck out 14 for the second consecutive week to send No. 2 Oregon State to a 4-0 series-opening win over USC Friday night at Dedeaux Field.
Heimlich struck out at least one batter in every inning but the seventh and tossed 8 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up his 13th win of the season, which leads the nation.
He struck out nine straight during a stretch from the first through fourth innings, and did not allow a baserunner until Kaleb Murphy singled in the sixth.
