Gabe Ovgard, Oregon State safety, medically retires from football

Oregon State safety Gabe Ovgard has medically retired from football, he announced via Twitter Monday evening.

In his post, Ovgard said he "suffered four concussions in the last year and many more in high school."

"While this is a devastating turn of events for me, I know that it is the decision that had to be made," Ovgard wrote. "With the increasing evidence of the effects of head trauma, it is necessary for me to forfeit this game in hopes that I an still enjoy the rest of my life without any major repercussions."

Ovgard was one of the Beavers' biggest feel-good stories over the past year.
