The Oregon State Beavers men's basketball season came to a close Saturday in an 80-59 loss to Oregon, but the day also provided one of the program's most significant reasons for optimism.
In California's Southern Section Open Division boys' basketball championship, Oregon State signee Ethan Thompson, the program's highest-rated recruit in recent memory, scored a game-high 23 points to lead Bishop Montgomery to the title in a 70-55 win over Mater Dei.
Highlighting the affair, the 6-foot-5, 180-pound guard helped turn the tide late with a slam over 7-foot-1 five-star recruit Bol Bol, the son of former NBA star Manute Bol:
