Crunch time for true freshmen aiming to play in 2016: Oregon State Beavers rundown

CORVALLIS — The film from Friday's first Oregon State fall camp scrimmage would be "evaluated very closely" for every player, coach Gary Andersen said.

But it was perhaps most important for the true freshmen aiming to prove they've got the ability to forgot a redshirt season and get on the field in 2016.

Outside linebacker Shemar Smith and receiver Trevon Bradford, two early enrollees who participated in spring practice, are virtual locks to play immediately. Both are on the two-deep at their respective positions, while Bradford is also a contender to return kicks and punts.

"I got time to get in the playbook, time to strengthen my mindset," said Smith, adding he upped his weight to 227 pounds and can now think much faster on the field.
