CORVALLIS— The play didn't exactly unfold the way Conor Blount envisioned.

With time winding down in the first half against Colorado, the Oregon State quarterback saw pressure and tried to dump the ball to Artavis Pierce. Pierce turned around just as the ball arrived, causing it to bounce off the running back and into the hands of the Buffaloes' Rick Gamboa, who bolted 20 yards the other direction for the pick-six.

"Just kind of a freak play that happened," Blount said.

Chalk it up to a painful step in the continued development of Blount, the freshman walk-on who replaced starter Darell Garretson for the second consecutive game.
