Strange happenings on Friday night when a report surfaced that Oregon State had a deal in place to hire Beau Baldwin as its next coach.
It made sense. Baldwin, at Cal now as the offensive coordinator, has head coaching experience, is a proven winner, and he knows the Pac 12. I wrote last Saturday that Baldwin was the primary target and quoted OSU president Dr. Ed Ray as saying, "We need to move fast."
All good. Makes sense.
One thing though... sources at Oregon State immediately worked to refute the report. And by immediately, I mean, I hadn't even had time to see the report and my telephone was blowing up with university sources eager to shoot holes in it.
