It had been nearly two years since the Oregon State Beavers had won a Pac-12 Conference game, and just when that elusive victory looked secure, with OSU up 17 in the fourth quarter, here came the Cal Golden Bears with a late comeback to force overtime.
But the Beavers defense got the stop it needed in the OT period, forcing a Cal field goal and setting up a final chance for Darell Garretson and the Oregon State offense.
Garretson fielded a wayward snap on third and short, then burst through the middle on a keeper for a 16-yard touchdown run that gave the Beavers a 47-44 victory.
