The NCAA regional meets are snoozefests for spectators: Oregon track & field rundown

One of Oregon coach Robert Johnson's least favorite meets takes place this week in Sacramento.

The NCAA West Preliminary, one of two regional qualifying meets for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, begins Thursday in Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium.

"I'm not necessarily the biggest fan of the regionals," Johnson said. "But this is the way our sport is set up, to go through these things. So we'll play by these rules and we'll do well at playing by these rules. We'll figure out a way to be successful at it."

The regionals essentially function as the early rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
