Softball: The Lombardi Effect

After winning the Super Regional in Eugene this past weekend, Oregon Softball is headed back to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

They’ve been there before, seven years ago in 2018, which was the last season under then coach Mike White, who subsequently left to coach at Texas.

After his departure, Melyssa Lombardi was brought in and a mass exodus ensued. Every starter from that team except for one left along with White, many citing concerns about a “change in culture”.

Understandably it was a tough task, and the following year Oregon went 22-30.
