Arizona State opened the game with the first five points before Oregon saw a slam dunk from Louis King. Francis Okoro followed up missing two free throws. Paul White would tie the game at 5 with a three-pointer. ASU went on a cold streak for over 3 minutes. They were 0 for 6 in the span.

Both teams battled through the rest of the first half, Louis King and Francis Okoro gave Oregon a 32-24 lead with just under two minutes left in the opening 20 minutes. Arizona State would step out of bounds giving the Ducks a chance to add to their lead.
