Oregon Ducks name Melyssa Lombardi new softball coach

After more than two decades at OU, one of the most sought-after softball coaches in the country is coming to UO.

A pitching and catching guru who's produced 20 All-America honors and been part of four national championship teams in 21 years as an Oklahoma assistant, Melyssa Lombardi has been hired by Oregon for her first head-coaching job.

Lombardi will be officially introduced at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene on July 16.

The hiring, reported Saturday out of Oklahoma, was officially announced Monday by the Ducks, whose search began after Mike White left for Texas on June 25 following nine seasons in Eugene.
