The upcoming NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are expected to be the final major meet contested in the current Hayward Field, the 99-year-old stadium on the University of Oregon campus.
The four-day NCAA meet begins next Wednesday and runs through Saturday.
What will happen after the NCAA team champions are crowned, though, remains a subject of speculation and rumor.
The old stadium needs to be renovated to stage the 2021 World Outdoor Championships as scheduled. It must be expandable to at least 30,000 seats, and address spectator amenities such as bathrooms, concessions and unobstructed sight lines considered basic by 21st century spectators.
