Olympic champ Matthew Centrowitz is back after claiming men's 1500 at USATF Outdoors

Matthew Centrowitz returned to prominence after the former Oregon Duck star and 2016 Olympic gold medalist won the 1,500 meters at the USA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Centrowitz, who trains for Nike Oregon Project, was in third heading into the final 400 meters. He passed front-runner Eric Jenkins, of Nike Oregon Project, and Izaic Yorks to take first in a time of 3 minutes, 43.37 seconds.

Yorks finished second in 3:43.63, and Jenkins placed third. It was Centrowitz's fourth USATF Outdoor 1,500 title, having previously won in 2011, 2013 and 2015. It was a significant win for Centrowitz, who has struggled with injuries and illness since capturing the 1,500 gold at the 2016 Olympics.
