By my count and as of this writing, there are 17 athletes on Team USA for the World Outdoor Champions who are tied to to Oregon or Southwest Washington, either because they grew up here, went to or currently attend the University of Oregon, reside here, or some combination thereof.
The number goes up to 19 if javelin thrower Cyrus Hostetler and long jumper Damarcus Simpson can reach world qualifying standards by July 23.
