Lineman Rex Manu will not play for Oregon in 2017, thinning Ducks' defensive line depth

Oregon's depth along its defensive line has taken another hit.

Rex Manu, whose 19 combined tackles in his first two seasons belied his increased role at defensive tackle, "is not competing in football this fall because of medical reasons," a UO spokesman wrote in an email Monday to The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Manu suffered a season-ending leg injury in a late-November upset win at Utah, did not compete during spring practices while undergoing his rehabilitation.

The news comes one day after promising true freshman defensive lineman Rutger Reitmaier confirmed to media outlets he is seeking a transfer before playing his first snap for the Ducks.
