Stanford went 4-8 in 2019. A number of commentators believe that was just an unlucky aberration, and that HC Shaw’s strong culture plus a team led by three 5-stars and at least 10 more 4-stars among the likely starters will bounce back quickly.
I don’t buy it. I think that 2019 was the bottoming out of a program in structural decline from its ahistorical peak, that their blue-chip talent has been underperforming for years even when healthy, and they just as easily could have gone 2-10 as 6-6.
