Plans for the renovated Hayward Field are expected to become public soon, perhaps as soon as this week.
Hayward is expected to be razed in a project that will begin this summer. This is necessary for the University of Oregon's 99-year-old stadium to host the 2021 World Outdoor Championships.
I'm told the reconstructed stadium will cost more than $200 million and include somewhere between 12,000 and 15,000 permanent seats. Hayward currently seats about 8,500.
When the reconstruction is complete, Hayward is expected to be state of the art. The money has been raised privately, much of it expected to come from Nike co-founder Phil Knight.
