Alberto Salazar acknowledges break with Olympic gold medalist Matthew Centrowitz

Olympic gold medalist Matthew Centrowitz has parted company with the Nike Oregon Project.

After finishing seventh in Saturday's USA Track & Field 5K Championships in New York, Centrowitz told the website LetsRun.com he had left the Portland-based training group.

"He has let us know he is not running with the Oregon Project," NOP coach Alberto Salazar said Monday. "I'm not coaching him."

Centrowitz, 29, joined the Oregon Project in November of 2011 after leaving the University of Oregon, where he was a three-time conference champion and the 2011 NCAA champion in the 1,500 meters.
