The match was thrice stopped by referee Uwe Manz thanks to a cut on Burroughs’ head.

The semifinal opponent? Georgia’s Jakov Makarashvili or Azerbaijan’s Jabrayil Hasanov.

Burroughs had dominated the 74kg weight class, winning world championships in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015 in addition to his gold from London.
