Welcome to a special Olympic edition of FTW Explains, where we break down the Olympic sports you are curious about, but don’t really understand. We won’t judge. Today we have rhythmic gymnastics.

It’s time for a look at rhythmic gymnastics, also known as, that one with the ribbon and ball (and hoop and clubs.) Rhythmic gymnasts perform choreographed routines with different apparatus. They are scored for their ability to manipulate the apparatus while doing leaps, turns, pirouettes and other graceful, pretty moves.

Does it have different events?

Yes, rhythmic gymnasts can compete as individuals or in a group event.
