With some members of the U.S. men’s basketball team in attendance, the women’s beach volleyball tandem of Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross moved one match closer to an Olympic gold medal.
Walsh Jennings and Ross defeated Australia’s Taliqua Clancy and Louise Bawden in straight sets, 21-14, 21-16. With the win Walsh Jennings is now 26-0 in women’s beach volleyball matches in her Olympic career. Trailing 8-7 in the first set the Americans grabbed control of the match at that point, going on a 10-4 run to take a 17-11 lead, and ultimately outscoring the Australians 18-6 to close out the first set.
