USOC extends CEO's contract through 2020 with option through 2024

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The U.S. Olympic Committee extended CEO Scott Blackmun's contract by five years, through the middle of 2021, with an option to keep him through the 2024 Games.

Blackmun will work under the same terms as his current contract, which pays him nearly $980,000 a year, including bonuses.

It's a move that recognizes Blackmun's success in the job he took over in 2010, and also signals stability in an organization that fired CEO Jim Scherr in 2009 — only months before the 2016 Olympics were awarded and Chicago finished last in the voting.
