RIO DE JANEIRO — Usain Bolt began is quest for an unprecedented third consecutive gold medal in the 100 meters looking very Usain Bolt-like: Checking out the competition at about 60 meters and cruising to victory in his first-round heat.
Bolt ran a very comfortable 10.07 to move on to Sunday's semifinals.
His main competition, teammate Yohan Blake and the USA's Justin Gatlin and Trayvon Bromell, also advanced easily.
Bolt scared fans in July when he withdrew from the Jamiacan trials because of a balky hamstring. Those fears seem unfounded.
