USA Hockey can’t use NHL players, but the Americans will have an NHL-caliber coaching staff for the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Former NHL and current University of Wisconsin coach Tony Granato will be announced today as the head coach of the U.S. Olympic team, and his assistants will be Chris Chelios, Scott Young and Keith Allain, according to a person with knowledge of the decision. The person was not authorized to speak publicly because the decision has not been announced.
Jim Johannson, a longtime USA Hockey executive, will be the team’s general manager.
