USA Gymnastics paid McKayla Maroney to silence her about sexual abuse, lawsuit alleges

Olympic gymnastics gold medalist McKayla Maroney and her family are seeking the maximum sentence for former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, who is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday after being charged with child porn crimes. Time

Olympic gold medalist McKayla Maroney alleged in a lawsuit filed Wednesday that USA Gymnastics paid her more than $100,000 to stay silent about sexual abuse she suffered from disgraced former team doctor Larry Nassar.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the figure was $1.25 million.

The lawsuit said the payment came in December 2016 — three months after an IndyStar investigation first exposed Nassar publicly and with Indianapolis-based USA Gymnastics under increasing pressure.
