Two Carli Lloyds on U.S. team for Rio; history of same-name Olympians

Carli Lloyd the soccer player and Carli Lloyd the volleyball player were both named to the U.S. Olympic team on Tuesday.

In Rio, they will become the seventh set of U.S. Olympians with the same name to compete at a single Games, Olympic historian Bill Mallon said.

Here’s the full list from Mallon:

2016: Carli Lloyd — soccer, volleyball
2012: Ryan Bailey — track and field, water polo
1992: Dave Johnson — shooting, track and field
1992: Craig Wilson — baseball, water polo
1976: John Matthews — rowing, wrestling
1952: John Davis — rowing, weightlifting
1932: Bill Miller — rowing, track and field

Mallon also noted that in 1976, Terry Porter competed in track and field at the Montreal Games and Terry Porter competed in cross-country skiing at the Innsbruck Winter Games.
