Top Irish Olympic Executive Arrested Over Ticket Scalping Allegations

RIO DE JANEIRO — Patrick Hickey of Ireland, Europe’s top Olympic official, was arrested here suddenly Wednesday morning, accused of selling tickets to the Rio Games on the black market.

The arrest, which was first reported by the Brazilian newspaper Estadão, took place just before 8 a.m. at the oceanfront hotel where top Olympic officials are staying. Evoking the early-morning arrests of soccer officials in Switzerland last year, Mr. Hickey was taken by surprise, answering the door to his hotel room unclothed and later emerging in a white bathrobe.
