Traditionally, some non-medal competition is held before the Opening Ceremony. Fittingly, softball will kick things off. Recall that the sport was voted off the Olympic program (by a single vote) by IOC members in 2005, with the 2008 Beijing Games its finale. It lost bids in 2006, 2009 and 2013 to get back into the Games.
