Less than three months after fracturing a bone in her wrist while competing at an international meet, American Sandi Morris took silver in the pole vault competition.
Morris, the American record holder in the pole vault, registered a best attempt of 15 feet, 11 inches which was equal to that of Greece’s Ekaterina Stefanidi. But with Stefanidi having one less missed attempt, she gets the gold medal and Morris the silver. Stefanidi’s gold is the first-ever for Greece in the pole vault, and Morris is the fourth American woman to medal in the event.
Taking bronze was Eliza McCartney of New Zealand, whose best vault measured out at 15 feet, nine inches high.
