As the sports world prepares to converge on Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympics on August 5, the United States has finalized its Olympics roster.
Per the United States Olympic Committee, there are 555 members of this year's U.S. Olympic team divided between 263 men and 292 women across 27 sports.
The USOC noted the 292 female participants represent a new Olympic record for any nation. It's only the second time the U.S. roster has had more women than men. The organization's CEO, Scott Blackmun, commended the diverse set of competitors who will represent Team USA:
Sport, and the Olympic Movement in particular, has always had a unique ability to inspire our nation and unite the world.
