Spain’s Belmonte Garcia wins 200 butterfly, Adams fourth

The final of the women’s 200 meter butterfly was incredibly close, with the top two spots separated by just three one hundredths of a second. Leading the way was Spain’s Mireia Belmonte Garcia, who won the race with a time of 2:04.85.

Belmonte Garcia, who has now won two medals in these Olympics, barely beat Australia’s Madeline Groves to the wall with the Australian finishing in 2:04.88. Taking bronze was Japan’s Natsumi Hoshi, who finished in 2:05.20. Cammile Adams was the fastest American in the race, just missing out on a medal and finishing fourth. Making her Olympic debut in Rio, Hali Flickinger finished the race in seventh place.
