Simone Schaller, Hurdler Who Competed in 1932 Olympics, Dies at 104

Simone Schaller, an American hurdler who was believed to be the last surviving competitor of the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, died on Thursday at her home in Arcadia, Calif. She was 104.

Her grandson Jeffrey Hardy said she died in the home that she and her husband built when they married in the 1930s. She was also believed to be the oldest living Olympian.

Schaller tied Babe Didrikson Zaharias for the world record in the first round of the 80-meter hurdles at the 1932 Games. Schaller finished fourth in the final behind Didrikson, who set another record.
