Serena Williams sidesteps questions before Rio Olympics

USA TODAY Sports

RIO DE JANEIRO — Serena Williams sidestepped questions about Black Lives Matter and Donald Trump on Wednesday during a pre-Olympics news conference for the U.S. tennis team. The world No. 1 will be a favorite to add to her four Olympic golds.

“I don’t involve myself in politics,’’ Williams said.

An international reporter, citing recent problems in the United States connected to Black Lives Matter, asked sisters Serena and Venus Williams if they felt they were playing for something bigger and more important than Team USA.
