Sarah Hammer becomes 40th athlete to qualify for 2016 U.S. Olympic team

Sarah Hammer qualified for her third Olympic team and in Rio will hope to garner the first U.S. Olympic women’s track cycling title.

Hammer, who earned silver in the omnium and team pursuit at London 2012, became the first cyclist to make the U.S. team for Rio by earning omnium bronze at the World Championships at the 2012 Olympic velodrome on Sunday.

The 32-year-old also was part of the team pursuit quartet that captured Worlds gold on Friday, the first Olympic or World team track cycling title earned by Americans.

Hammer became the 40th athlete across all sports to qualify for the U.
