Sam Mikulak wins 4th U.S. gymnastics title in row

HARTFORD, Conn. — The U.S. men’s selection committee has three weeks before it has to pick the team for the Rio Olympics.

Good thing. It’s going to need all the time it can get to figure this team out.

Sam Mikulak is probably a lock after winning his fourth title at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in commanding fashion Sunday. He finished with a score of 181.500, more than 1.5 points ahead of Chris Brooks, and is the first U.S. man to win four consecutive titles since Blaine Wilson won five in a row from 1996-2000.

Mikulak has perhaps the most pure talent of any American since Paul Hamm, and a performance like Sunday would put him in contention for an all-around medal in Rio.
