BOSTON — Even with two falls, Sam Mikulak is halfway to a comeback U.S. all-around title and his fifth overall.

Mikulak, the only Olympian in the field, leads despite falling off the high bar and pommel horse on the first night of the gymnastics national championships at TD Garden on Thursday.

His top rival, defending champion Yul Moldauer, fell off pommel horse, too, and had clear errors on parallel bars and high bar.

Mikulak scored 85.15 points, topping Akash Modi by 1.05. Moldauer is sixth. Full scores are here.
