Ryan Lochte received a 10-month suspension from U.S. Swimming and will be forced to miss next year’s World Championships over his role in a late-night incident at this year’s Olympics in Brazil which became an international scandal.
Before we dive too deep into this (sorry, couldn’t resist the aquatic pun there), it’s important that we know exactly what happened in Brazil. The internet threw out a lot of theories about what happened, from vicious robberies by Brazilians to drunken gas station rampages by the Americans. Some of these theories came about from stories told by Lochte, some from stories told by the gas station owner, some were just completely and totally made up.
