Ryan Lochte qualifies for Olympic Trials 100m semifinals

OMAHA — Olympic champion Nathan Adrian and Ryan Lochte safely qualified into the Olympic Trials 100m free semifinals Wednesday.

Adrian was the fastest qualifier in 48.83 seconds. Lochte, battling a groin injury, was sixth in 49.13. Adrian and Lochte bookended the 2012 U.S. Olympic 4x100m free relay that earned silver behind France.

Cullen Jones, who as also part of that relay, was 29th overall in prelims and failed to make the 16-swimmer semifinals. He has one more shot to make the Olympic team in the 50m free later this week.

The 100m free semifinals are Wednesday night (8 ET, NBC and NBC Sports app).
