Russian's Maria Verchenova lands an ace, sets course record

RIO DE JANEIRO — Maria Verchenova hasn’t had many better days.

The Russian made a hole-in-one on the fourth hole Saturday at the Olympic Golf Course and signed for a course record, 9-under-par 62 to end her stay in the Rio Summer Games.

“I didn't know the course record,” said Verchenova, who moved up more than 25 spots in the field and finished at 4 under for the tournament. “I just realized it when I came back there, and they said, ‘Oh, do you want your card, because you have a course record.’ I was like, of course I want it.
