Russia loses 2 more 2008 Olympic track and field medals

Russia has lost another two 2008 Olympic track and field medals following retesting of doping samples from the Beijing Games.

Maria Abakumova, the javelin silver medalist, and Denis Alexeev, part of Russia’s 4x400m bronze-medal team, were among four Russians who tested positive for the steroid turinabol in retests.

The International Olympic Committee said they were disqualified from their events and ordered to return their medals.

The IOC requested the results to be modified by the IAAF, which could mean Great Britain gains two medals with fourth-place finishers Goldie Sayers in the javelin and the men’s 4x400m team.
