Rio officials say they have solution to fix green water

Time

RIO DE JANEIRO — Rio 2016 officials say they have a solution to correct the green water in the diving pool that has been an eyesore for several days.

Green water from the diving pool will be drained and replaced with water from the warmup pool, officials said in a news conference Saturday.

Officials said the water turned green because a contractor poured 80 liters of hydrogen peroxide in each pool, which negated the effectiveness of the chlorine.

Draining the water will start Saturday afternoon and the process of replacing the water should take place overnight.
