Positive drug test by Russian figure skater has forced a delay of Olympic team medals ceremony

BEIJING – The medal ceremony for the Olympic figure skating team competition has been delayed by the positive drug test of one member of the gold-medal-winning Russian team, according to a person with knowledge of the situation who spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity.

The athletes on the six-person Russian team that won gold were Kamila Valieva, 15, the gold-medal favorite in the women’s competition later in the Games; men’s competitor Mark Kondratiuk, 18; pairs skaters Anastasia Mishina, 20, and Aleksandr Galliamov, 22; and ice dancers Victoria Sinitsina, 26, and Nikita Katsalapov, 30.

The name of the person who tested positive has not been released.
