RIO DE JANEIRO — Ryan Lochte and at least one of his U.S. teammates were held up at gunpoint early Sunday morning, according to the swimmer’s mother.
Reached by USA TODAY Sports, Ileana Lochte confirmed a report that Lochte was robbed. She said he was unharmed.
“I think they’re all shaken up. There were a few of them,” Ileana Lochte said. “No, they were just, they just took their wallets and basically that was it.”
David Marsh, Lochte’s personal coach and the head women’s coach for the U.S. swim team, told USA TODAY Sports via text message that Lochte was in the athlete village sleeping late Sunday morning.
