The third official day of action at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place Monday in Rio de Janeiro, with eight different sports having a chance to crown medalists.
Swimming, diving, fencing, gymnastics, judo, rugby, shooting and weightlifting all took center stage as pool play remained ongoing in most team sports. Rugby and gymnastics handed out their first medals, while the other six continued over from their previous weekend ceremonies.
The United States, buoyed by its excellence in swimming, leads all countries with 12 medals. Its three golds were tied with China and Australia for the most overall.
