Lizzie Armitstead, Olympic silver medalist, crashes hard after winning tour stage

Lizzie Armitstead, the British cyclist who won silver in the 2012 Olympic road race, crashed and was taken away in an ambulance after winning the first stage of the Women’s Tour in Great Britain on Wednesday (video here), according to British reports.

Armitstead, 26, hit at least one person three seconds after crossing the finish line and fell to the road. She was put in a head brace and on a stretcher but moved her arms and hands, according to the Telegraph.

In 2012, Armitstead was beaten for Olympic road race gold in a sprint by the Netherlands’ Marianne Vos.
