Katie Ledecky would love shot at women's 1,500

RIO DE JANEIRO — It feels like Katie Ledecky hasn’t left the pool all week; she’s swam so many events here in Rio, she hasn’t gone a day without racing.

But there is one noticeable event she won’t swim here, though her male counterparts will swim it tonight: The 1,500-meter freestyle.

The event simply does not exist for women in the Olympics. They swim the 800 free instead, though Ledecky and other distance swimmers have called for the mile (1,500) to be added for women, too.
