Jeremy Abbott to sit out figure skating season

Four-time U.S. champion Jeremy Abbott will sit out the 2015-16 figure skating season, according to icenetwork.com.

“I need a break from the rigors of training to focus on other aspects of my life and take some real time away from competition to assess my future plans and goals,” Abbott said in an email, according to the report. “I plan to perform in various ice shows domestically and internationally in the coming months.”

In spring reports, Abbott said he would retire if he couldn’t land two different quadruple jumps in training by June, was not assigned to any 2015 Grand Prix events and then said he hoped to return for the U.
