IU once dominated the NCAA swimming scene. This week, it might again

BLOOMINGTON – It is both boon and burden.

It is not possible to ignore the legacy of Indiana University swimming and diving. The building where the Hoosiers train is named for coaches Doc Counsilman and Hobie Billingsley. Sixteen-foot black and white photographs adorn the walls with images of Olympic gold medalists such as Mark Spitz.

“The shadow of Doc Counsilman, Mark Spitz, it’s a big task,” Indiana coach Ray Looze said. “It’s a very long shadow. That’s just part of the deal here at IU.
