RIO DE JANEIRO — The United States women’s basketball team completed another impeccable journey through the Olympics on Saturday, winning its sixth straight gold medal and not letting a single opponent stay close over the course of four quarters.
Spain was the last team standing in the way of the American women, and it was never really a contest. The Americans pulled away for a 101-72 victory, although at least Spain could console itself that the final margin — 29 points — wasn’t as bad as the score when these two teams met in the preliminary round.
That game ended 103-63.
