German twins Anna and Lisa Hahner had one heartwarming end to their Olympic marathon to add to the growing pile of memorable moments from Rio — they crossed the finish line hand in hand.
But Thomas Kurschilgen, the sports director of the German Athletics Federation, had a different take on the sisters finishing together. Via the New York Times:
“Victory and medals are not the only goal. Still, every athlete in the Olympic competitions should be motivated to demonstrate his or her best performance and aim for the best possible result. …
“Their main aim was to generate media attention.
